1930 'The three days Hamer Token sale which Messrs. Glendinning and Co. began on Wednesday in London, is one of unusual interest. Formed by the late Mr. S. H. Hamer, of Halifax, the collection contains many rarities, including trial striking from unfinished dies, and silver proofs of tokens; nearly all of them in the finest condition. Mr. Hamer was more than a discriminating collector, says the "Times" - he was a well-known contributor to the Journal of the British Numismatic Society. He was the author of a work on private tokens, and, with Mr. Dalton, pint author of the standard work on eighteenth century tokens...'[3]
