1781 Born the son of Robert Hadfield (1758-1807)
1850 Died. 'We have this week to record the decease of one of the most respected and wealthy of our townsmen. Mr. Hadfield was the last survivor of the firm of Robt. Hadfield e& Co., in which he and his late brother, Mr. Joseph Hadfield, continued the extensive business established by their father. Mr. Samuel Hadfield was elected Master Cutler in 1827. In the following May, he was also elected a Town Trustee. He continued throughout his life to give much attention to the affairs of these corporations, and took an active part in the affairs of most of the public companies, which existed in the town. With ample means, Mr. Hadfield exercised a large, though scrupulously unostentatious charity...'[1]
