SAMUEL EDWARD LEE was born at Limerick on 5th February 1845.
He served part of his apprenticeship, from 1859 to 1863, in the works of his father's firm, Harrison Lee and Sons, City Foundry, Limerick, and subsequently as improver, from 1863 to 1866, at Messrs. Courtney and Stephens, engineers, Dublin, in their works and drawing office.
On the death of his father in 1866 he returned to Limerick to take up the management of the works, in conjunction with his brothers, and on the death of his eldest brother in 1869, Mr. S. E. Lee has been senior partner and manager since that date in the general engineering and millwright business.
He took a deep interest in the question of hydraulics and was a milling expert, being consulting engineer for the largest mill in the south of Ireland.
He was a Justice of the Peace for Limerick.
His death took place on 22nd June 1916, at the age of seventy-one.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1890, and was a very frequent attendant at the Summer Meetings of this Institution.
