1881 'Mr Samuel Bastow, engineer and contractor, who carried out many public and private works of importance.....In 1881 Mr Bastow, sen., erected and owned the Cliff House Ironworks, West Hartlepool, and at a later date he built the Carlton Ironworks, the Train Warehouses on the West Hartlepool Docks, and the High Water Pier Margate'.
Had son Samuel Bastow, Junior who died in 1923.
