Sampson Lloyd (1664-1725)

Sampson Lloyd (1664-1725), a Quaker ironmonger of Birmingham.

He came from a family of rural Welsh minor gentry.

He was drawn to the iron trade partly through the example of his father-in-law.

In Birmingham he was a wholesale supplier of bar iron, rods, and other metals in Birmingham, particularly supplying nail and hardware makers.

From his first marriage, he had four daughters

His second wife, Mary, was the sister of Sir Ambrose Crowley (1658-1713) and daughter of Ambrose Crowley of Stourbridge, another Quaker ironmonger and nailer. They had two sons, one of whom was Sampson Lloyd (1699-1779), and one daughter.
