Rye House Power Station

From Graces Guide
1954.

1951 A coal fired power station, designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott was built; it had capacity of 128 MW, using four 30 MW Richardsons Westgarth-Parsons turbo-alternators. The site is bounded by the River Lea and the main London to Cambridge railway line.

1965 An open cycle gas turbine plant was commissioned.

1982 Both these stations were closed on 1 November and subsequently demolished.

1993 A 715 MW gas-fired combined-cycle gas turbine station was built; it was fully commissioned in November 1993. During its construction, efforts were made to reduce the visual impact of Rye House by careful use of colour, architectural treatment and extensive landscaping.

Rye House Power Station is owned and operated by VPI, part of the Vitol group.
