Robertson and Co, iron shipbuilders and engineers, 14 Main Street, Greenock[1]
1870 The failure of the company was announced, with liabilities of around £29,000. The enterprise was established four years earlier by John Robertson, previously manager with Caird and Co, and others, and enjoyed a good reputation. 24 vessels were built in all, including steamers for the Clyde and coasting trade, the River Plate, and other foreign trades, as well as four large iron sailing ships for John Kerr. At the time of closure the company had no work on hand, except for two small steamers for Buenos Aires, which had just been completed and were awaiting shipment in pieces.[2]
