ROBERT JAMES HATTON had been a director of Messrs. W. T. Henley's Telegraph Works Company since 1912 and was associated with the late Mr. W. T. Henley prior to the present company's incorporation in 1880.

In 1884 he became manager of the North Woolwich works and retained this position for thirty-six years.

In 1920 he was appointed consulting engineer to the company and held this appointment until his death.

He was an authority on submarine cables and the design of machines for their manufacture. Mr. Hatton was born in London in 1854 and died on 17th May 1933.

He had been a Member of the Institution for forty-eight years, having been elected in 1885.
