ROBERT ISAAC was born at Portmadoc on 21st March 1849.
He was educated at the Liverpool Institute, afterwards serving his time with Messrs. Owen, Isaac and Owen, of the Union Iron Works, Portmadoc.
Following this he went as a draughtsman to Mr. O. M. Roberts, surveyor and architect of Portmadoc, and also in the same capacity at Leigh's Engineering Works, Patricroft, Manchester. Subsequently he became manager of these works until 1889, when he resigned to take over the management of his father's works at Portmadoc, where he had served his apprenticeship, eventually becoming the owner on his father's death in 1897.
He devoted much attention to the design, construction, and erection of machinery for the economical manufacture of slates, in which he was recognized as an expert He was frequently consulted in engineering matters connected with slate, stone, and granite quarries; and was also very successful in the salving of several steamers and vessels round the roughest parts of the Welsh coast.
His death took place at his residence in Portmadoc on 21st November 1910, in his sixty-second year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1895.
