"ROBERT HAMPTON CARLAW was the managing director of Messrs. David Carlaw and Sons, Ltd., Glasgow, and had been associated with that firm from 1901, when he began to serve his apprenticeship, until his death, which occurred on 22nd February 1950. He was born in 1884 and educated at the Glasgow High School and at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. On the completion of his practical training in 1907 he filled successively the positions of draughtsman, joint manager, partner, and finally managing director. Mr. Carlaw had been an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers since 1914."
