Robert Bowman (Whitehaven)
1738 Advertisement: 'ALL Sorts of Iron Screws, from two Inches and a Half, to five Inches Diameter and upwards, the Threads whereof are cut by an Engine with great Exactness, are Made and Sold, at very reasonable Prices, by ROBERT BOWMAN, Anchor-Smith, at Whitehaven in Cumberland.'[1]
It is unfortunate that nothing more is known, as this is a remarkably early reference to what is presumably a large screwcutting lathe.
