ROBERT ANGUS died at Ladykirk, Monkton, Ayrshire, on April 14, 1923, aged eighty-seven.
He had been associated with William Baird & Co., Ltd., ironmasters, for sixty-four years.
Born at New Monkland, he received his professional training as a civil engineer in Glasgow, before he entered their service at Gartsherrie and Kilsyth. After a few months he was appointed general manager of the Blair Ironworks of Ayrshire.
In 1860 he took over the management of the Lugar and Muirkirk Works, and later of the Spanish interests of the firm.
Eighteen years later he became a partner in the firm, and in 1913, after the death of the late Mr. William Weir, he became chairman of directors.
He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy-Lieutenant of the county of Ayr, and was actively interested in the work of the Ayrshire Territorial Force Association.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1873.
