River Tyne Improvement Commission

From Graces Guide

c.1842 the Corporation of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was responsible for the conservancy of the river Tyne.

Later the conservancy was vested in the River Tyne Commissioners.

1859 Carried out the works on the Tyne including building the Northumberland Dock and the Coble Dene Dock.

1859 Mr. John Francis Ure was appointed to superintend the works; he was succeeded by Mr. P. J. Messent.

1861 "The Tyne Improvement Act, 1861" was enacted.
