1891 Residing at Thanet House, London Road, Stroud: Richard Townsend (age 52 born Fairford), Corn Dealer. With his wife Martha, son Richard Townsend (age 25 born Minchinhampton), Traveller for father, and three daughters.[1]

1896 April. Died. '...the death at the comparatively early age of 57 of Mr Richard Townsend, corn and seed merchant, of this town....He had been in business between thirty and forty years, and was highly respected by a very large circle of friends. The business of Messrs Townsend and Stacey and of Mr R. Townsend, in Gloucester and Stroud had lately amalgamated under the style of Richard Townsend and Co., and there are two sons now in the same business.'[2]
