Richard Guest was elected a Member of the Institution in 1916.
Born in 1868, he was educated at a Preparatory School in Weybridge and at Shrewsbury School.
He commenced his engineering training as a pupil of A. W. Adams, on the London and South Western Railway, in September, 1885.
In June, 1890, he was a draughtsman with A. M. Rendel, and six years later was made an inspector. In June, 1899, he joined Messrs. Sharp, Stewart and Co., Ltd., incorporated with the North British Locomotive Co., Ltd., in 1903. For a period he acted as Works Manager in the Atlas Works, and later as Foreign Travelling Representative of the North British Locomotive Co., Ltd., retiring in 1940.
During the 1914-18 War he was loaned to the Ministry of Munitions.
He retired from the Institution of Locomotive Engineers in 1934.
He was an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
