Sir Richard Rylandes Costain, (1902–1966), of Richard Costain Ltd and Costain Group

1902 Born in Great Crosby, Lancs

1911 William Percy Costain, 37, building contractor, was living in Great Crosby, Lancs, with Maud May Costain 34, his wife and sons Richard Rylandes Costain 8 and Albert Percy Costain 9 months[1]

By 1927 he was joint managing director with his father of Richard Costain and Sons

1929 On the death of his father he became sole managing director.

1939 On the outbreak of war, Costain offered his services to the government and was appointed deputy director of emergency works, later deputy director of works, in the Ministry of Works.

Post-WWII He returned as chairman of his company,

1946 Appointed CBE.
