1972 Merger of C. and J. Hampton, maker of Record tools, and William Ridgway and Sons. Acquired Bestmore Tool and Edge [1]

1975 Maker of Record and Wotan bench vices, pipe tools and planes[2], Marples, Gilbow and Ridgway tools[3]

1976 Acquired Platts Forgings, useful for making dies for the rest of the group[4]

1980 Closed subsidiary Platts Forgings of Willenhall[5]

1981 After a period of losses, acquired by Bahco of Sweden[6]

1981 Mabey and Johnson acquired the drop-forging business of Record Ridgway previously carried on by Platts Forgings[7]

1981 Record Holdings was created as a management buy-out of the Record Ridgway business[8] and planned a stock market listing
