Reay and Usher

presumably a partnership of John Reay and Thomas Usher

1856 John Reay joined Walton and Usher, forgemaster of South Hylton, making in particular locomotive axles.

1857 Mr Walton died in 1857. After that the business was carried on as Reay and Usher

1858 Ship smiths[1]

1902 This company has just been registered with a capital of £25,000 shares, to adopt an agreement with J. Reay and to carry the business of forgemasters, manufacturers in iron, steel or other metals any work required for ships, railways, tramways ...[2]. Apart from the family, Mr John Jamieson the manager of the works, was also involved in the firm.

1925 Voluntarily wound up[3]
