History 2.

Uncle of Isaac Dodds

1814 Chief viewer to the Grand Allies Collieries at Killingworth[1]

1815 Took out a patent with George Stephenson for a steam locomotive - see Dodd and Stephenson

  • NB Skempton gives his birth as 1792 and his death as 1874 but it is not clear this is correct, since it would have put him in charge of the Grand Allies colliery at the age of 22, being master of George Stephenson who was several years his elder.[2]
