1901 'MILL FATALITY AT MARPLE. An engine fitter named Joseph Bardsley, of Dukinfield has died in Stockport Infirmary from injuries stained in Shepley's Mill at Marple. He was in the emplov of Messrs. Scott and Hodgson, engineers, of Guide Bridge, and was looking after the satisfactory working of the mill engine. He was left alone in the engine room for a few minutes, and when the engineer returned he found him lying unconscious near the connecting rod. He died from the effects of injuries to the head. [1]. Note: This is assumed to refer to the Marple mill of R & J Shepley, although this has not been confirmed.
