The company began by marketing waterworks equipment but was soon designing and manufacturing boiler components in its Dansville, New York, plant. Primarily building superheaters, Power Specialty also expanded to serve the new electrical power industry.
Power Specialty developed an affiliation with the armed forces early in the company's history.
1911 John Primrose and Godfrey Harter invented a marine superheater; the patented was assigned to the company.
WWI the company used its engineering expertise to design an advanced marine boiler for the U.S. Merchant Marine.
1919 Ernest H. Foster assigned to the company his patent on "Improvements in Superheaters"
1920 Formation of British subsidiary Power Speciality Co
1920s Power Specialty diversified its operations by entering the industry of petroleum refinery equipment - designing and manufacturing plant, including crude oil distillation units and fired heaters
1927 Merger of the Power Specialty Co. and the Wheeler Condenser and Engineering Co[1]
1928 Name changed to Foster Wheeler Corporation
