Peter Walker and Son
of Duke Street, Liverpool, with breweries in Warrington and Burton-on-Trent.
Peter Walker (1795–1879) started brewing at the Fort brewery, Ayr before moving to Liverpool.
He took his son, Andrew Barclay Walker as a partner in the brewing business in Ray Street, Liverpool.
1846 Opened a new brewery in Warrington; the family already had two breweries.
1864 The Peter Walker Brewery was founded in King Street, Warrington, as Walker's of Warrington
1877 Opened another brewery in Burton-upon-Trent to specialize in the brewing of high-quality bitter ales under the title of A. B. Walker and Sons.
1866 The Dallam Lane site was acquired and a brewery built.
1889 Company registered as Peter Walker and Son, Warrington & Burton Ltd.
1921 Merged with the Liverpool brewer Robert Cain and Sons Ltd to form Peter Walker & Robert Cain Ltd.
1923 Bass took over the Shobnall Brewery in Burton on Trent which had been built in 1877 for A. B. Walker, younger brother of Peter Walker junior.
1946 The name of Peter Walker & Robert Cain was changed to Walker Cain Ltd
1960 Merged with Joshua Tetley and Son Ltd of Leeds to form Tetley Walker Ltd
By 1981 was a subsidiary of Tetley Walker supplying Merseyside; it was part of Allied Breweries Ltd, a subsidiary of Allied Lyons
Later part of Carlsberg-Tetley.
1996 The Warrington brewery was closed.
