Pennwalt

Suppliers of process equipment and manufacturers of centrifugal refining plants.

1957 Pennwalt Salt Manufacturing Co was renamed Pennsalt Chemical Corporation, although the company had been referred to as Pennsalt for many years preceding the change.

The group developed a diversified range of products.

1962 Moved into the processing equipment industry with the acquisition of the Sharples Company, a manufacturer of centrifuges. Pennsalt inherited plants in England, France and Germany.

1963 Acquired the F. J. Stokes Corporation, a $23 million producer of tabulating machines, plastic moulding machines and high-vacuum equipment. These acquisitions were the first step toward diversifying the company in order to maintain a competitive edge against the larger chemical firms.

Late 1960s: Acquired the S. S. White Dental Manufacturing Co

Acquired Wallace and Tiernan, a chemical, equipment, and healthcare concern that added related, but non-competitive product lines to Pennsalt. Upon the merger the company changed its name to Pennwalt Corporation.

1971 Pennwalt is a world-wide organisation supplying chemicals, complete plants and equipment to the process industries — from petro-chemicals and plastics to food and drink, from metal finishing to powder metallurgy[1]

1973 Pennwalt Chemicals is part of a world wide organisation, manufacturing and marketing chemicals and equipment.[2]

By 1973 Pennwalt had improved its business performance.

1974 Pennwalt Ltd of Doman Road, Camberley

1981 Restructuring programme focused on diversifying the company in "leadership areas" and divesting itself of some of its less profitable subsidiaries. In particular, the dental business had shown itself to be a disappointment.

By 1985 S.S. White Dental Corporation had been sold.

1986 Successful development of time-release decongestant capsule which was used in over-the-counter drugs. It was hoped to sell the technology to other companies in order to raise the cash to support the research and development efforts of Pennwalt's pharmaceutical efforts.

1987 In the UK: "Pennwalt Ltd is a leading manufacturer of centrifuges and process plant for the Chemical Process and Waste Treatment Industries. Our Production Division has the following skilled openings: VERTICAL HEAVY DUTY TURNER .. "[3]

1988 Pennwalt Corporation sold its pharmaceutical division to Fisons.[4]

1988 Pennwalt Holdings Ltd was put into liquidation[5]
