From Graces Guide

The Payless name was first used in 1983 to re-brand the Marley Homecare chain.

1986 Ward White acquired the Payless DIY chain[1]

1989 Boots acquired Ward White[2]

1990 Payless DIY and W H Smith Do It All were merged and became Do It All Ltd, a joint venture of Boots and W H Smith.

1993 Do It All implemented Project Focus. Formation of Do It All (Holdings)

1996 Boots acquired the shares in the JV that were owned by W H Smith and so Do It All (Holdings) became a subsidiary of the Boots company

1998 Do It All (Holdings) was acquired by the Focus Retail Group and the name of the group was changed to Focus Do It All which later became Focus DIY.
