1848 Born son of James Tennant Caird and his wife Elizabeth Mcarthur

Educated in Scotland, England and Germany.

1865 Apprenticed with Caird and Co

1871 Manager of the Engine Works and a partner in the company.

1881 Ship builder and marine engineer, living in Greenock with Arthur Caird 27, William Caird 30 and others [1]

1888 On the death of his father, was appointed Man. Dir. and Chairman of the Company. With his brothers, took over the management of Caird and Co

1922 Member of Council I.N.A

1891 joined the Board of the Glasgow and South Western Rly. Co.

1900 Elected Chairman of the Glasgow and South Western Rly. Co.

1915 retired from the Board

1933 Died in Greenock[2]
