PS Walton Belle

1897. Built by William Denny and Brothers. Belle Steamers. Dimensions:— Length 230 ft. by 26.2 by 9.2. Gross tons 465. Triple expansion engines, cylinders 20.5 in., 30 in., 43 in. by 60 in. N.H.P. 143. Speed 17 knots. One boiler. Sold to the P.S.M. Syndicate in 1921, in 1923 to the R.S.S. Co. and in 1925 purchased by the New Medway Steam Packet Co. and renamed ESSEX QUEEN.
In 1931, she was thoroughly re-conditioned, including new boilers, and equipped for burning oil fuel. Her principal services were to Clacton or Margate and Ramsgate, and frequently to London and the dock cruises. She was withdrawn from service in September, 1938, and sold in 1946 to the South Western Steam Navigation Co, Totnes, and re-named PRIDE OF DEVON.
