1825 The DUKE OF SUSSEX was built at Rotherhithe, with dimensions of 143.8 ft. length, 16.4 ft. beam and 4.2 ft. depth, giving a net tonnage of 105. She was quite a speedy little vessel, having engines of 80 n.h.p. Although the Admiralty did not consider that she was of sufficiently strong construction to carry the long 18 pounders which were usually reserved for the boats of the G.S.N. Co., they considered that she was quite big enough to have 6 guns on the broadside, either 6 or 12 pounders.
The DUKE OF SUSSEX usually ran on the excursion service between London and Boulogne until about 1850.
