1916 KIA. 'Capt. P. Y. Harkness, who has been killed in action, was a grandson the late Mr Edward Clark, of Brentry and Weston-super-Mare, and nephew of the late Mr Myles Ariel Clark, of Bristol. At the time of his death he was second command of the 2nd West Yorks Regiment. After leaving Malvern he became well known as a motor cyclist, winning the gold medal in the London to Edinburgh motor-cycle competition. A keen horseman, he hunted with the Mevnell Hurt, and established himself as a fearless steeplechase rider. Holding a commission in the West Yorks., he had seen active service since the outbreak of war. He was killed in France in the great move on July 1., and officers and men mourn his loss. Capt.- Harkness leaves a wife and one son.'[2]
