Oxford Electric Co

1891 The Electric Installation and Maintenance Co applied to transfer powers granted under the relevant Order for lighting in Oxford to the Oxford Electric Co[1]

1892 The company commissioned its generating station at Osney, with a substation and the company's offices in Broad Street, Oxford. Contractors were Electric Construction Co under the supervision of Thomas Parker[2]

By 1932 was owned by Edmundsons' Electricity Corporation

1931 Oxford Council exercised its rights to purchase the Oxford undertaking and was able to reduce tariffs. However, this created an independent electricity 'island' within the Wessex supply area.

1938 the shareholders of the Oxford Electricity Company recommended the sale of the company to the Wessex Electricity Company.
