"Major NORMAN LINDSAY, R.E.M.E., whose death occurred on 15th February 1947, at the early age of twenty-eight, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1941 and transferred to Associate Membership in 1945.
He received his technical instruction at Woolwich Polytechnic, and on the completion of a five year course of practical training as an apprentice in the Royal Ordnance Factory, Woolwich, in 1939, became a draughtsman in the chief mechanical engineer's department, where he remained until 1941, when he was attached to the Ministry of Supply as a technical assistant. He was appointed lieutenant, R.A.O.C. in May 1942, and was subsequently transferred to the R.E.M.E. upon its formation. During his service in India, Burma, and Malaya he was promoted to the rank of captain, and in 1945 to major, in which latter rank his final appointment was officer commanding a Workshop Company, I.E.M.E."
