1911 Living at Ninefields, Bishop Auckland: Nicholas Kilburn (age 68 born Bishop's Auckland), Iron merchant - Employer. With his wife Alice Kilburn (age 51 born Aberdeen) and their two sons Paul Kilburn (age 20 born Bishop's Auckland), Undergraduate Cambridge University, and Drysdale Kilburn (age 17 born Bishop's Auckland), Student. Two servants.[1]

1923 December. Died. 'Mr Nicholas Kilburn, Mus. Doc., Bishop Auckland, for many years conductor of the Choral Societies of Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and Bishop Auckland, died early this morning, aged 80. Deceased, who was chairman of the local magistrates, presided at the police court yesterday. He was head of the engineering firm of Langford, Gardiner and Co., Ltd., Bishop Auckland, and father of Mr. Paul Kilburn, conductor of the Royal Albert Hall orchestra, and Mr. Drysdale Kilburn, of Shaw and Kilburn, a motor firm. London.
