Newport Power Station
The initial installation of plant at the Llanarth Street site in 1895 comprised horizontal compound engines coupled by ropes to Hall dynamos. The plant had a rating of 350 kW. [1]
Babcock and Wilcox boilers. The three engines were of the 'E. P. Allis type', made by Markham and Co [2]
1921 Advert: 'The Newport Corporation Offer for Disposal One 500 K.W. Set. The Engine is of the cross-compound, slow-speed, reciprocating type built by Markham and Co. (Limited), Chesterfield. The Generator is a direct-current machine, compound-wound, voltage 460-500.' [3]
