Newbury Urban Electric Supply Co
1892 Newbury Corporation were granted powers to generate and supply electricity. However, the town council did not develop the electricity undertaking.
1901 the Urban Electric Supply Company obtained a provisional order to supply electricity to Newbury. It built a power station at Greenham Mill on the River Kennet, which opened in January 1905.
By 1937 it had been acquired by Wessex Electricity Co which replaced the water wheels and gas engines with diesel engine sets.
1948 Electricity supply industry was nationalised .
