1916 The National Gas Council was established
1916 A National Gas Council had been established, made up of representatives of all the governing bodies of organisations in the gas industry, to deal with matters that concerned the whole of the gas industry.
Together with the British Gas Federation, was said to have a membership representing 90 percent of gas sales.
1934 Plan to expand the research department
1937 A new industry headquarters was opened at Gas Industry House, Grosvenor Place, London; it housed the Institution of Gas Engineers, the British Commercial Gas Association, the National Gas Council, the Women's Gas Council, the British Gas Federation and other organisations
1943 The gas industry proposed the formation of the British Gas Association, a merger of the National Gas Council and the British Commercial Gas Association
