Miners Safety Explosive Co

From Graces Guide

c.1890 Sir George Elliot, M.P., formed the company to manufacture a safe explosive, ammonite, which was not produced in Britain at the time.

1891 J. C. Butterfield, the chemist, of the company carried out tests on a new explosive, Ammonite, at the Curry Marsh Explosive Factory

The explosive was used in the Risca Colliery near Newport, a particularly "fiery" mine where it was shown to achieve the safety features.
