Meiklejohn's Brewery

Bass Crest Brewery, Alloa

1890 Meiklejohn's Brewery Limited was registered, with capital of £40,000, to acquire, carry on, and extend the Bass Crest Brewery belonging to Robert Meiklejohn and Son, of which Charles Maitland was the surviving partner. The business was established in the year 1774. Following the death of Maitland's co-partner, James Forbes, in 1889, it was decided to form a limited liability company.[1]

1898 Charles Maitland remained engaged with the business until his death at the age of 80.[2]

1899 It was reported that the company had been purchased by a Newcastle syndicate.[3]

1900 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[4]
