MATTHIAS ERASMUS WESLEY, who died at his residence, 156 Holland Park Avenue, London, on the 20th August, 1901, aged 80, had for many years taken no active part in professional work.
From an early age he was engaged in connection with the iron trade and with the manufacture of iron for Messrs. R. W. Kennard and Company and Messrs. Kennard Brothers, of London, and for the Falkirk Iron Company.
Mr. Wesley, although it shrewd man of business, found time to take considerable interest in music, and was largely instrumental in the establishment of the Royal College of Organists, He was also an active supporter of benevolent societies in connection with the iron trade.
Mr. Wesley was elected an Associate of the Institution on the 1st May, 1866.
