Matthew Robinson Boulton (1770-1842) of Boulton and Watt
1770 August 8th. Born the son of Matthew Boulton and his wife Anne Robinson
Educated according to the liberal principles espoused by his father, with a focus on chemistry, mechanics, and geology, as well as French and German.
1800, Matthew Boulton and James Watt retired from the business of running the Soho Foundry, which they handed over to their sons, Matthew Robinson Boulton and James Watt (Junior).
1809 On his own account, directed Soho Mint and Soho Manufactory after his father's death.
1815 Bought the Tew Park estate in Oxfordshire
1817 Married Mary Anne Wilkinson
1818 Birth of daughter Anne Robinson (d.1902)
1819 Birth of daughter Katherine Elizabeth (d.1890)
1820 Birth of son Matthew Piers Watt Boulton
1821 Birth of son Hugh William (d.1847)
1823 Birth of son Montagu (d.1849)
1826 Birth of son Lionel (d.1830)
1829 Birth of daughter Mary Anne (d.1912), married John Robb and had two sons
1829 Wife Mary Anne died
1842 Died a "celebrated mechanic"; "an example of how a great talent, judiciously directed, can amass a great fortune"; left about £1,500,000 which was administered by J. Wilkinson of Thomas Sharp and Co of Manchester [1].
