Matthew Berge

Scientific instrument maker.

Berge was the foreman for Jesse Ramsden for over 30 years. After Ramsden died in 1800 Berge completed all the major unfinished instruments, and continued trading on the premises. [1]

Matthew, born c.1753, was a younger brother of John Berge (1751? - 1808) who had been apprenticed to Peter Dollond. Matthew died 1819.[2]
