Mr. Petty was educated at Mill Hill School, and was trained at Waite and Saville, Printing Machine Engineers, at Otley, West Yorkshire.

He then joined the Nursteed Engineering Co., Devizes, Wiltshire, as Manager, and worked on the design and construction of heavy lifting gear and special purpose vehicles.

During the 1939-45 war he was Engineering Officer Merchant Service (deep sea) and then Engineering Officer Coastwise Salvage ships.

Mr. Petty was co-designer and patentee of the Hydropulsion system of hydrostatic power transmission for marine and rail traction. He is now Managing Director in charge of design, development and prototype production with Commercial Patents, Ltd.
