1892 'A new system of electro-plating has been recently introduced by the London Metallurgical Company. The main point of departure is the use of a now silver amalgam in place of the silver amalgam ordinarily employed in electro-plating. The resulting advantages claimed are that the areas-plating is cheaper than silver-plating, while it is equal to it in appearance...'[2]
