LESLIE FYVIE received his technical education at Aberdeen Technical College, where he studied with distinction, and served his apprenticeship, from 1903 to 1908, in the Strath Engineering Works, Aberdeen, where he gained experience in new marine work and in engine repair work on vessels. In the following year he was employed by Messrs. Cammell, Laird and Company, Ltd., in their Birkenhead and Tranmere Yards, in the erection of triple-expansion engines, turbines, condensing plants, and auxiliaries for merchant and war vessels.
His association with Messrs. Belliss and Morcom, Ltd., of Birmingham extended from 1910 until his death, which occurred on 5th August 1941, in his fifty-sixth year. He was a member of the outside staff and took full charge of various contracts in this country, as well as in Finland, Sweden, and Mexico until 1920, when he received a staff appointment as district engineer for the northern counties of England, and was placed in charge of all installation and maintenance work in connection with machinery in that area supplied by the firm.
Mr. Fyvie had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1923.
