1883 Laing Wharton was established
1886 Laing, Wharton and Down company formed to sell products from the American Electric Company.
1889 Laing, Wharton and Down announced that the part of their business related to the Thomson-Houston electric lighting system had been formed into a limited company Laing, Wharton and Down Construction Syndicate Ltd. All of the shares were privately subscribed[1].

1894: Laing, Wharton and Down Construction Syndicate was renamed British Thomson-Houston after acquiring the British rights to Thomson-Houston patents[3].
