Resident engineers for the construction of the railway were[1]:
- November, 1895, to July, 1896: Mr. W. W. Williams
- July, 1896, to September, 1896: Mr. R. A. Hamilton (acting)
- September, 1896, to August, 1898: Mr. W. Gee
- August, 1898, to February, 1900: Mr. C. E. Brown
- March 1900, to completion: Mr. R. Knights
1910 The northern extension of the Lagos Government Railway had been completed from mile point 293 (from Lagos), ending on the east bank of the Kaduna River at milepoint 429.75, including crossing the Niger at Jebba. The line was extended by the executive staff of the Northern Nigerian Government from Zungeru to Minna in the Gwarri country, where a juncture was made with the main line of the Baro Kano Railway.[2]
1912 the Lagos Government Railway and the Baro-Kano Railway were amalgamated, starting nationwide rail service under the name Government Department of Railways.
