It was founded by J. McEwan King to produce a range of aircraft components, including pilots' seats and parachute harness release gear.[1]

1961 The name of the company changed on 8 May to H. K. Porter Co (Great Britain) Limited[3]
1963 'Mr J. McEwan King, whose King Aircraft Corporation, Glasgow, had expanded from a one-man business to a concern carrying a staff of 450 when he sold out and retired two years ago, has decided to return to the aviation industry in an endeavour to help, in some small way, towards solving the heavy unemployment situation in Scotland, he said yesterday. Announcing the setting up of McEwan King Components, he told me: At the moment I am in touch with irms, finding out which comhey want help with—then I'll curing the difficulties.” On the payroll of his new firm at it, he says, is a small team of mechanical, hydraulic and electronic designers and engineers. He is working Scottish Aviation's premises at Prestwick Airport. He says: “I'm hopeful of surpassing the 450 payroll I had at King Aircraft Corporation.”<ref>The Scotsman.
