1849 Apprenticed as a watchmaker to Nathanial Hill and later became his partner

1871 Living at Earlsdon House, Earlsdon Street, Coventry: Joseph White (age 35 born Foleshill), Watchmaker employing 7 men and 9 boys. With his wife Catherine White (age 34 born Coventry) and their six children; Annie Catherine White (age 10 born Coventry); Clara Rebecca White (age 9 born Coventry); Howard Joseph White (age 7 born Coventry); Joseph Newsome White (age 6 born Coventry); Catherine Elizabeth White (age 4 born Coventry); and Florence Steave White (age 2 born Coventry) Alfred James White (age 11 months born Coventry). Also his nephew Thomas White (age 20 born Foleshill), Watch Finisher.[1]

1891 Living at Earlsdon House, Earlsdon Street, Coventry: Joseph White (age 55 born Foleshill), Watchmaker and Director of Cycle Company - Employer. With his wife Catherine White (age 54 born Coventry) and their nine children; Ann C. White (age 30 born Coventry); Howard J. White (age 27 born Coventry), Watch Manufacturer; Catherine E. White (age 24 born Coventry); Florence S. White (age 22 born Coventry); Cyril D. White (age 19 born Coventry); Winifred A. White (age 18 born Coventry); Harold E. White (age 16 born Coventry); Ethel M. White (age 15 born Coventry); and Conrad S. White (age 13 born Coventry). Three servants.[2]

1907 March. Died. 'We regret to announce the death of Mr. Joseph White, of Earlsdon House, Earlsdon. The deceased carried on business as a watch manufacturer for many years and the watch he manufactured was of the highest class. He was far a number of years managing director of the Coventry Machinist's Company. Mr. White, who was well-known and highly respected in the watch trade, has passed away at the age of 71 years.'[3]
