1897 Joseph Place and Sons Limited was registered, with a capital of £75,000, to acquire the business of colliery proprietors, and sanitary and drain pipe and fire-clay manufacturers carried on at Hoddlesden and Eccleshill, near Darwen, Lancashire, under the style or firm of Joseph Place and Sons.[1]
1936 Associated Clay Industries announced that the anticipated purchase of Joseph Place and Sons had been carried through. An issue of £150,000 of debentures was placed to provide the purchase money required, to repay the amount due to the company's bankers, and to leave a satisfactory balance of working capital.[2]
