Partner in the cutlery firm of Arundel and Mappin.

1821 May 16th. Birth of the first of four sons Frederick Thorpe Mappin

1835 Owing to the illness of Mr. Arundel, the partnership of Arundel and Mappin was dissolved. Joseph Mappin continued the business as Joseph Mappin, bringing in his eldest son, Frederick Thorpe Mappin despite his young age.
