Joseph Harrison (c1856-1909) of the New Coventry Cross Cycle Co

1909 Died. 'The funeral took place at the Coventry Cemetery this afternoon of the late Mr. Joseph Harrison. of Croft Gate, Queen's Road, whose death, as already announced, took place at his residence on Friday last., at the age of 73 years, from an internal complaint. The deceased gentleman was a partner in business with the late Mr. David Spencer, and was associated with him for 30 years in the firm of David Spencer and Co., woollen merchants. After Mr. Spencer's death in 1888 Mr. Harrison continued to be connected with the business as a partner of the firm of Harrison and Adcock, until his retirement in 1889. He was an executor of Mr. David Spencer, in conjunction with Aldd. Scampton and Ald. Tomson. He was one of the first twelve Trustees nominated to administer Spencer's Charity. and held that office till his death, being chairman for a number of years. Mr. Harrison held a number of trusts. He was solicited a number of times to take public offices in Coventry, but like Mr. David Spencer, preferred to live a retired life. He was a director of the Coventry Cross Cycle Co. and also of the Coventry Gasfittings Co.'[1]
