JOSEPH HARGER PYE was for forty-four years engineer and manager and, latterly, managing director, of the Clevedon and Yatton Gas Company, Somerset.

He was born in 1870 and after receiving his general education entered the secretary's office of the Chester Gas Company. In 1890 he became a pupil under the late Mr. Robert Hunter and after four years' training was appointed assistant manager of the Chester Gas Company. After his return from the West Indies in 1899, where he had been for three years engineer and manager of the Barbados Gas Company, he began his long connection with the Clevedon and Yatton Gas Company, which lasted till his death, which occurred on 23rd May 1943.

Mr. Pye was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1901.
